DESIGN | ILLUSTRATION
Illustration and Design enable me to express a more playful side of my personality and utilize an altered form of creative problem solving. Design, in its constrictions, is an exciting opportunity to use creativity to solve real problems be it in the form of business or art. Illustration, while like design, differs in the freedom it offers. Utilizing my drawing experience, illustration allows me explore new ideas often only informed by a few small details. This openness leaves the idea exposed to be explore and lets you find “it” through the work itself, both being guided and guiding the idea simultaneously.
PHOTOGRAPHY
I have always been fascinated with the camera’s ability to take the ordinary world and isolate it’s moments to see that beauty outside of superficial experience and function. This unique quality is explored in the Phenomenology series. At the same time, photography distorts reality as it attempts to record it, often informed more by what is left unseen as opposed to what we are shown through it’s lens. These attributes are exploited in the series of Still Lifes.
COLLAGE
Digital collage’s allowance for untethered expression grants the artist an almost endless library of material to be recontextualized and manipulated. In this process I draw upon the artist power to turn object to symbol, allowing for the exploration of larger concepts about the nature of reality. These metaphysical works often explore questions and subjects related to existential ideas related to the human condition as I see it.
I am equally serious and playful. I see life as a nightmare and a dream.
